EVEREST THREE PASS TREK – THE MONSTER OF KHUMBU
They call it the Everest Three Pass trek because you go over not one, not two, but three high mountain passes. kongma la, cho la, and renjo la. all above 5,000 meters. That’s like, where planes fly. The air is so thin, you breathe and feel like you’re drunk. but not in a fun way.
First, you land at Lukla. that airport? crazy. The plane shakes like popcorn. but it’s fun too. From there, you walk to namche Bazaar. A busy place. bakeries, gear shops, wifi. After that, it was no more easy.
you go high. you go to chukhung, then lobuche, then dzongla. cross icy passes. snow, wind, rocks. Sometimes you slip. Sometimes you cry. But the views? oh my god. ama dablam looks like it was carved by god himself. and Everest? it’s there. big, silent, cold.
you reach gokyo lakes too. blue like paint. mirror to sky. I sit there, just stare. and think about life. Everest three passes, not just trek. It’s a transformation.
MANASLU CIRCUIT TREK – THE WILD SIDE OF NEPAL
Okay. listen. Everyone talks about Everest and Annapurna. but manaslu? It’s a secret gem. It feels like Nepal from 50 years ago. no crowd. no fancy lodge. just raw.
you start Manaslu Circuit Trek from soti khola. walk by river, jungle, waterfalls. leeches in monsoon, be careful. The trail climbs slowly. villages like machha khola, jagat, namrung – small, peaceful, prayer flags everywhere. no electricity mostly. people use firewood. cook dal bhat. smile at you like your family.
then you get higher. sama gaon is the base. From here you see manaslu. eighth highest mountain. 8,163 meters. huge. white. powerful.
acclimatize here or you are sick. Then comes the challenge. Clarke la pass. 5,106 meters. That thing is brutal. you start at 3 am. freezing. black sky. only headlamps and stars. The wind bites your face. snow deep. but you push. and when you reach top? oh man. 360 view. so much mountain your brain can’t count.
Then you go down to bhimtang. and it feels like a dream. The forest has come back. The trail ends at Dharapani, and you feel like a warrior. manaslu changes you.
ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP – THE CLASSIC THAT NEVER DIES
Some say Annapurna Base Camp Trek is for beginners. Maybe. But it is still hard. still awesome. and still one of the best treks ever.
You can start from many places. Pokhara is the base. Chill city. lakeside cafes. After that, get a bus to Nayapul or Jhinu or Ghandruk. The trek goes through steps. lots of steps. Your knees will scream. villages every few hours. Chhomrong, bamboo, and Dovan—nice people, good food, and warm beds.
As you go up, the forest gets misty. bamboo, rhododendron, and monkeys sometimes. Then Snow showed up. cold mornings. big cliffs. The river roared in the valley below.
Then comes Machhapuchhre base camp. That mountain, it’s sacred. No one climbed it. It stands tall, proud, and silent. The next day, you reach Annapurna base camp. Wow. surrounded by a wall of mountains. Annapurna I, Gangapurna, and Himchuli are all staring at you.
sunrise there? magical. golden peaks. frozen air. Everything shines. You cry, maybe. or just smile like an idiot. The ABC trek is not the toughest, but it still hits deep.
LANGTANG VALLEY TREK – THE QUIET BEAUTY
People forget Langtang Valley Trek . Maybe because it is not famous like Everest. But it’s worth every step.
You drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. long bus ride. bumpy. scary sometimes. But then you walk. Follow rivers, pass forests, and climb slowly. You see monkeys and birds. Hear the waterfall. It’s peaceful. Not many trekkers.
Villages like Lama Hotel, Langtang Village, and Kyanjin Gompa—they were destroyed in the 2015 earthquake. now rebuilt. The locals are strong. heart strong. You feel it.
At the top, you reach Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri. Both give views. long walk. thin air. but so calm. Langtang Lirung shines above you. white giant. glacier near. Cows everywhere. and silence. real silence.
People here are tamang. kind. They talk little, but their eyes speak. They serve yak cheese. You sleep early and wake with a cold. but you feel alive.
Langtang is not hard like Everest. but still tough. and very emotional. one of the best for people who like quiet and mountains.
WHY THESE TREKS STAND OUT—NEPAL’S REAL TEST
Do you want real trekking? Not a tea shop stroll? Do these:
- Everest Three Pass for hardcore suffering and glory
- Manaslu Circuit for a raw, remote feel
- Annapurna Base Camp for balance and views
- Langtang Valley for peace and silence
Each one tests your body and mind. Uphills break your legs. Cold bites your fingers. Food gets boring after day six. But something happens inside you. You learn. about you, about life.
These are not luxury trips. Forget the hot shower. Forget the phone signal. You wake with a chicken sound. Sleep with stars. Talk to people with hand gestures. eat dal bhat every day. and love it.
TREKKING TIPS FROM A FOOL WHO LEARNED THE HARD WAY
- Go slow—altitude kills fast walkers. Don’t be a hero.
- drink water—more than you think. even when it’s cold.
- Eat well—dal bhat is king. energy for legs.
- Layer up—cold hits fast. The sun burns too.
- No shortcut—don’t skip acclimatization day. big mistake.
- Respect locals—it’s their home, and you’re a visitor. Be kind.
- Carry snacks—Snickers save lives.
- Get a permit—no permit = big fine.
- Check season—monsoon = leeches. Winter = snow trap.
- Listen to the body—headache? rest. puke? Stop. Don’t push.
WHEN TO GO—BEST TIME FOR EACH TREK
- Everest three passes – March to May or Sept to Nov: clear sky, less snow.
- Manaslu Circuit – same. Avoid the monsoon, which causes landslides and mud.
- Annapurna Base Camp – all year, but spring and fall are best.
- Langtang Valley—good all seasons except monsoon.
FINAL THOUGHTS—YOU NEVER COME BACK THE SAME
People say trekking is walking. That’s a lie. Trekking is suffering. climbing. freezing. blisters. dirty socks. Poop in a hole. but it’s also laughing. watching the sky. sharing tea. feeling small under a big mountain.
I went for photos. came back with a soul full of something I can’t explain.
Everest’s three passes broke me, then built me.Manaslu showed me that silence is powerful.Annapurna Base Camp gave me joy.Langtang Valley gave me peace.
If you want to know what you’re made of, go trek Nepal. no filter. no fancy. Just you, boots, and trail. and mountain waiting.
